Fibre broadband

Fibre broadband is the future.

Fibre broadband uses fibre-optic cable to transport huge amounts of data at speeds not possible with other connection types. Fibre performance doesn’t degrade over distance, so your broadband speed is consistent no matter how near or far you are from the exchange or cabinet. All of this leaves ADSL and VDSL in the dust.

Because the speed is so much faster and the data-carrying capacity is larger, you can use multiple devices to watch, listen, play, post, work and chat all at the same time without any loss of quality or buffering.

Your fibre installer may use the existing ducts, in this case your old copper line phone line is often removed. This means home and medical alarms that run over your old copper phone line may be affected. Don’t worry, there are some simple fixes available. Check with your alarm provider as most offer a fibre-friendly alternative.

Ultra-fast fibre speeds are generally listed by download/upload speeds. For example, ultra-fast fibre broadband 100/20 means the service can deliver download speeds up to 100Mbps and upload 20Mbps.

Your actual speed will be affected by several factors, including New Zealand and overseas networks, websites you are viewing, your modem/router and computer technology, internal home wiring and other environmental factors. These factors also affect ADSL and VDSL connections.
